About the stadium
Kaliningrad Stadium, often called Arena Baltica, is a brand new football facility on Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad built specifically ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. During the constructions designers took inspiration from Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena. The venue was finally opened on April 11, 2018 hosting a league match between the Football Club Baltika and Football Club Krylia Sovetov.
After the World Cup Kaliningrad Stadium is expected to become the home for FC Baltica Kaliningrad. The capacity of the stadium was planned to reach 45,000, however it was decided to reduce it to around 35,000.
Becoming one of the 2018 FIFA World Cup venues Kaliningrad Stadium hosts the four group-stage matches between Croatia- Nigeria, Serbia-Switzerland, Spain-Morocco, England-Belgium.
