About the stadium
Nizhny Novgorod Stadium is a recently opened sports facility in the historic part of Nizhniy Novgorod, built ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Construction of the stadium officially began in 2015 and was finished in 2018. Nizhny Novgorod Stadium was officially opened on April 15 of the same year. The first game which took place at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium was a league match between Olimpiyets and Zenit II.
In future the stadium is supposed to be the home of the Football Club Olimpiyets Nizhny Novgorod, having a capacity of around 45,000 spectators.
Becoming one of the 12 FIFA World Cup venues Nizhny Novgorod Stadium is hosting six matches, including the four group-stage games between Sweden-Korea, Argentina-Croatia, England-Panama, Switzerland-Costa Rica, a round-of-16 match, and and one-quarter final.
